What if you could prepare your body and voice such that worries like “Will I be able to sing that note?” will disappear, and you would be able to focus on vocal, movement and emotional expression with freedom?

Do you find yourself going for a voice class, being able to sing in a specific manner or note there, and then not being able to replicate it consistently in your own practice?

Was singing ever easy for you at one point until you hit a point in your practice where you feel stuck, and no matter how you practice, you’re still stuck in the same place?

You might be getting injured or vocally fatigued.

You might be having a battle with a specific note or a specific phrase in a song.

You might be having trouble getting the stylistic sound that’s needed for a song.

You might be avoiding certain notes because you fear them.

You might be avoiding certain songs, because you think you’ll not be able to do them.

You might be missing out on parts and auditions, because you think “I’m not good enough for that role”.

You might be afraid of performing or auditioning, because you wonder if your body and voice will fail you when you reach that part of the song.

We have met enough people who have had these thoughts and who were facing these problems. We’ve also tested the ways we’ve tried to help these voice users in their practice and voice journey, and they’ve worked.

We would like to help you explore your vocal potential and help you express yourself fully and with the confidence and authenticity you deserve.

Who are we?

Move Your Voice is a collaboration between Jingyun Ng and Cassandra Mak.

Jingyun is a voice teacher and performer who works with people to discover their vocal and artistic potential through equipping them with experiential knowledge of their psychophysical selves. She nurtures readiness for life-long voice work in singing with stylistic sensibility and versatility, and in speaking with a dynamic and supple voice.

Cass is a Pain and Movement Therapist who has helped Jingyun with injuries and has structured physical training that helped her with her voice practice significantly. She has also helped other voice users with physical training that’s helped their voice and helped them get unstuck in their practice. In her regular practice as a therapist and coach, Cass trains people and helps people understand and recover from their injuries and pain, so that they can do the things they love with confidence.

In this workshop by Move Your Voice, we bring you A Systematic Guide to Voice Practice.

We hope to help you:

1. Learn how to best structure your time and effort during regular practice periods
2. Learn how to best structure your time and effort to prepare for an audition or show
3. Understand stressors that affect your voice and body and how to recover effectively
4. Learn how to use physical training to elevate your voice practice and performance
5. Learn how building your vocal capacity increases your confidence in yourself as a performer and maybe even just as a human

What you can expect from the workshop

It’s important that you get to apply what you learnt in the workshop as immediately as possible to your own practice, so we’ve kept the group small (12 pax max.) to ensure personalisation.

Discussions and room for asking questions to help us understand you better and to allow us to personalise advice and guidance to what you need.

Frameworks that you can apply to your own practice, with questions you can ask yourself to guide your process even after the workshop. We’ll walk you through how to use them in the workshop.

Movement activities and sections to help you map your body to understand the relationship between your body and your voice.

New possibilities of expression that you may not know you have vocally and physically through movement.

Explanations of key terms and concepts from physical training and how to apply it to systematic voice training, so that you have the knowledge to apply it on your own.

Learn how to tweak physical movements to fit what you need - a movement can be so different with a changed intention and perspective.

Understand how stressors in your life affect your voice practice and how to balance them with recovery strategies and managing stressors within your control.

Learn how to name emotions and sensations, and then map them to vocal expression - in order to express them you first need to know them and where and how they might live in you.

3 hours worth of sessions with Cass costs between $450-$540.

3 hours worth of sessions with Jingyun costs between $270-$360.

What we plan to give you during the workshop is what you would get with 3 hours worth of sessions with each of us individually, for the price of $320 (or for Early Bird code users $290).

What you will get is advice and knowledge (about voice, injuries, training, practice and more) that is specific to you, in an effective manner, which we will learn to apply together with both our guidance.
